The January 24, 2013 bulletin from Newborn Screening Ontario announced the province’s decision to add SCID to Ontario’s newborn screening panel beginning in April 2013. The Government of Ontario accepted the recommendation from the Newborn and Childhood Screening Subcommittee, which was endorsed by the Provincial Council on Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH) and Newborn Screening Ontario. Newborn Screening Ontario estimates that approximately 50 infants will screen positive each year from the TREC test used to screen newborns, and about 5-10 will have SCID.
