The Pennsylvania Department of Health has published a notice in the Pennsylvania Bulletin announcing their intent to add SCID to the newborn screening follow-up panel. Formal notice will be published upon implementation of a laboratory information management system, which the Department anticipates will occur in 2013. The publication of the notice is a necessary rulemaking step for the Department of Health to move forward with implementation. This follows the recommendation of the Newborn Screening and Follow-up Technical Advisory Committee that the state add SCID to the newborn screening panel. To read the full notice, click here.
IDF volunteers and advocates for SCID newborn screening in Pennsylvania participated in a meeting with the Department of Health in September to stress the need for the state to screen for this life threatening disease.
